As a new mom, I’m always looking for on-the-go ways to relax. Being stressed out is a common part of every pretty girl’s life, whether you’re a student, working woman, mom, etc. We all know how important it is to relieve stress and we even know ways to relieve stress, such as deep breathing, exercising, and meditation, just to name a few.
But, no matter how much we know, how often do we actually take steps to relieve stress? Sometimes we feel like it’s too much work, or that we don’t have any time, or that it’s too hard. That’s where the apps below come in. Every pretty girl has her smartphone and iPad with her at all times. These apps take less than a minute to download and between 5-30 minutes to do, but bring so many benefits to your life, most importantly by relieving stress through meditation, exercise, journaling, socializing, and creative expression.

1. Silva Meditate- Guided Meditation (free)
This app comes with 5 free meditations. What I like about this app over other meditation apps is that the meditations are categorized into times of day. There is one called “Good Morning” for purpose and positivity, an energy booster, a centering exercise meditation for focus, an alpha beats meditation and a good night meditation for better sleep. The morning and night meditations are about 10-13 minutes, which are easy to squeeze into even your busiest days. The energizing meditation is also good for a quick 3 p.m. pick-me-up and takes about ten minutes. The other apps are good for when you have a little more time to devote to meditating.
2. Zumba (free)
If you’ve ever taken a Zumba class, then you know how much fun they are. You get so wrapped up in the moves and music, that you forget you’re working out. That is, until your skinny jeans slide on with ease. It is estimated that a Zumba workout can burn up to 500 calories an hour. This app gives you access to all of the hottest Zumba routines on your iPhone or tablet. I recommend using this app only for your tablet, as it uses motion tracking technology to ensure that you get the most out of your workout. You can dance along with your favorite Zumba instructors to chart-topping music. Zumba actually makes working out fun and is a great way to relieve stress.
3. Bad Girl’s Journal ($1.99)
Journaling is a great way to relieve stress and let out emotions. When I’m worried about something, I feel so much better when I journal it out. The Bad Girl’s Journal is great for that and it has some amazing features. It can be password-protected, the theme can be changed, you can organize entries by topic, you can include mood, customize text, stye and color for every entry. You can search for past journal entries through keywords, add photos and stickers, email entries to a friend, snapshot your entry and send it as an ecard. It also has a privacy screen. My favorite feature is the burn button. If you’re having an especially stressful day, you can write a journal entry and then hit the match button and watch it burn. I usually do it when I’m venting. It’s good for releasing your frustrations without any one reading them!
4. Instagram (free)
Sometimes when I’m working hard or I feel my brain almost maxed out, I open Instagram and scroll through my feed…hitting like and commenting as I go. Make your feed stress-free by making sure that you only follow people who post positive pictures. You can also search for hashtags, such as relax, calm, happy, etc. and/or follow profiles that have positive and relaxing quotes. One of my favorites is Gabrielle Bernstein @gabbybernstein.
5. A Beautiful Mess ($1.99)
Make all of those IG pics pop with this app. You can add backgrounds, doodles and text to your pics. Bringing out your creative side can go a long way to putting you into your om zone.
