Although the above cartoon is funny, there is nothing humorous about the actual loss of a friendship. Maybe it’s because real friends are hard to find, and when you do find someone who’s worth being friends with, it sucks when you find out they aren’t really good for you after all.
But, there is wisdom in knowing when to salvage a friendship and when to let it go.
Real and honest friendship is built on honesty, loyalty and trust. It also requires a measure of patience and forgiveness, since no one is perfect. However, if someone you thought was your friend continuously brings you down or influences you in a negative way, then it may be best to let the friendship go.
It’s better to have a handful of true friends than a Facebook profile full of fake ones.
