Matte lips are in.
Follow the three steps below to ensure that your matte takes center stage:
- Moisturize. Make sure to begin with lips that are soft and moisturized. Matte lipstick does not go on well if your lips are chapped or dry. If you notice that your lips are chapped or dry, exfoliate them by scrubbing off the dead skin with a wet toothbrush. After you exfoliate, dry your lips and rub in a lip moisturizer (such as Vaseline, Chapstick, or lip balm) then wipe off gently with a Klennex. The perfect foundation for the matte look are soft, clean lips.
- Line. Use a lip liner to lightly line your lips. This will help to define your lips and will prevent the matte lipstick from smearing outside of your lip line. Be sure to use a lip liner that matches your lipstick shade.
- Apply. Apply one coat of matte lipstick. Allow 1-2 minutes to set, and then apply another coat. If needed, apply one more coat to ensure even application. Do not blot or rub your lips together. Think of matte lipstick as paint. You put it on, you let it dry, and you reapply, and you let it dry.
