My 5-Minute Workout Pledge

I am always on the fence when it comes to working out.  I know that it has so many benefits.  It provides cardiovascular health, builds endurance and flexibility, and allows endorphins to be released for hours after the workout.  It also burns calories, helps to rid the body of stored fat, makes you sleep better, makes your skin tighter, makes you feel good, makes you look good, and is just overall one of the most amazing things that you can do for your body.

But…

For some reason, I just can’t seem to stick to a workout regimen for longer than a couple of weeks before life gets in the way.  There’s always the option of waking up at 4 a.m. to work out, but, I haven’t been able to stick to that plan, because, well, I need sleep, duh.  Then, there’s working out after work, around 4 p.m., but I’d have to get it in between cooking dinner, cleaning the house, and taking care of a toddler.  Between bath time, preheating the oven, and putting the little one to bed, my evenings are packed.  Besides the fact that waking up at 5 a.m. every morning has me barely feeling like doing anything in the evening besides going to bed before 8 p.m.

So, what’s a girl to do?

I want to workout.  Consistently.  But, I need to find an easy way to incorporate it into my life.

Enter the “5 Minute Workout.”

Each day, I pledge to work out for exactly 5 minutes, incorporating a few of the best exercises known to man.

1 minute squats

1 minute push-ups

1 minute plank

1 minute crunches

1 minute downward dog

This quick “workout” incorporates exercises that address every muscle in the body, and ends with a good, deep stretch.  And since it’s only five minutes, I know I can push myself to stick to it and get through it.  I could even challenge myself to increase the amount of squats, push-ups and crunches I can do in one minute.

I’m going to see how this goes and incorporate more later, maybe.  But, you’ve have to start somewhere, right?
