How To Look Like a Boss

Whether you’re an entrepreneur, a full-time student, a full-time employee, a stay-at-home-mom, or a trust fund baby, everyone is a boss.  We all make “boss” moves in our lives, from hitting the books before hitting the club, to balancing work and mommy duties, to waking up before noon, it all counts.

The truth is, feeling like a boss is relative.  But, looking like a boss?  Yeah.  That you can do.

First, you have to slay from the neck up.  That means…hair laid, face beat, diamond stubs sparkling, and shades on fleek.  Your face is your showpiece.  If your hair is in a ratty ponytail, if your makeup leaves a lot to be desired, and if you’re not looking selfie-ready, then you won’t feel amazing, and your boss status may go from a 10 to a 2.

Next, you have to take care of everything else from the neck down.  Tips and toes should be manicured, pedicured and flawless.  Your lingerie should be “car accident worthy.”  Your outfit should be well put together.  Notice, I said “outfit.”  An “outfit” is not picking out a random pair of jeans and a blouse from your closet and calling it a day.  An “outfit” is something you plan.  It’s something you spend time (either the night before or the morning of) putting together.  An “outfit” includes pieces from your wardrobe that pair well together, including accessories and shoes.  I prefer to plan this the day/night before, as opposed to rushing and finding something the morning of.

(As a side note, when you put together outfits that you absolutely love, be sure to save them.  Snap a picture of them and use a fashion app, such as TRiFT (free), to save them so that you can wear it again. I love this app as opposed to other “closet organizer” apps because its focus is on saving your OOTD, instead of just snapping pictures of each piece on its own.)

Finally, looking like a boss involves body language and attitude.  Walk with confidence.  Make sure your posture is perfect (there’s a book on your head), your head is held high and your shoulders are squared and back.  When you talk to people throughout the day, smile at them and give them lots of eye contact.

We can’t promise that all of these things will make you a boss.  But we can promise that all of these things will make you look like a boss.
